Pleats are not just for the trousers that you have to wear to work. In 2020, pleats promises to make a stronger splash in fashion. From Chloé’s pleat-overload Spring 2020 collection to Issey Miyake’s Pleats Please campaign and Topshop’s pleat infatuation, pleats appear to be here to stay.
For translating pleats from the runway to more accessible Korean fashion, we looked to Son Ye Jin for cues. Son Ye Jin has had a big year this year with the massive success of Crash Landing on You, the weekly drama starring heartthrob Hyun Bin.
With her legacy in the Korean entertainment and her soft, feminine charm, we decided to incorporate YeJin-inspired looks for our version of 2020 pleated dress. Yoon Seri, Ye Jin’s character in the drama dons floral maxi dresses with a blend of soft hues to bring out her bright, playful side during her stay in North Korea. This emphasis changes when Seri moves back to South Korea and she must resume the role of a cold, stern boss bitch. Her wardrobe also changes to sharp-structured, solid color blazer dresses and power suits. Seeing that Ye Jin has personally opted more for clothes closer to Se Ri’s North Korean style for promotions of the drama, we decided we love the feminine look better as well.
The Yejin Floral Pleated Dress- yes, a blatant namesake of our inspiration- is somber, feminine and at the same time, perfect for a date night as much as it is for casual Fridays.
It can be paired with a contrasting jumper if you have a chilly spring in your city.
If brown seems a bit too dull for your spring wardrobe, we have a beige alternative.
Just throw on a blazer and you are ready to power-walk into the conference hall. And the best part is that you can just doff the blazer if you are headed for a date right after work.
We decided to try a contrast jumper for the beige dress too, just because.
